Local Gold

It’s been a while since our last So Gold post, and since then he’s been rocking the local scene HARD.  He just dropped a hot new bmore edit of the Armand Van Helden and A-Trak’s new collabo (Duck Sauce) single, “Anyway”.  We’re not going to have this available for long so get get get it.  So Gold has also taken up a weekly gig over at Azia and is now a resident over at Wants vs. Needs – quite the happenin’ blogchild to local DJs Espada, Anton, and Petey Wheatstraw.  Be sure to do yourself a favor and check out Wants Vs. Needs this Friday Nov. 20th at Clubhouse Jager for a good music time (10pm-2am).

Duck Sauce – aNYway (So Gold Edit)

Scion Metro radio Ch. 17 recently took note of this guy’s skills and added him alongside the fine beats of other club banger makers like Treasure Fingers.

The local Moon Goons have been bringin’ it back in new style after the last Honeymoon show and their newest gig – Forever Young.  They’ve come up with a new single, Acid Party House.  Its a has some great ravey keys, pitch shifted vocals, and various hallucinogenic inducing noises.  It’s even made it’s way onto the new discobelle mystery mix put together by dj neoteric (a lil hint for ya).  It sits alongside some quality new tunes and should def gain some notoriety.

So 4th Pyramid and Cosmo Baker are back at it again. This month the Sheen Bros mix is put together by Cosmo. Since the first one was released, Cosmo has come through Minneapolis with Scion. He’s a riot, and has tons of quality chunes. So I was def looking forward to this one. The mix is full of good obscure funk, hip hop, and disco. The tracklist is kept rough (only song titles were given) as samples may get used for their own material. Keep an eye out for an album/ep in the coming year (think of it as a funk/rap blend). My first time through I heard some Edan, Ultramagnetic MC’s, Final Edition (the original song Duck Sauce uses for aNYway), and Pon De Girls. Pon De Girls is a blend of the original song here comes the girls used on pon de floor with parts of pon. It’s crazy good, and had me digging (def a sign of a good mix). Big up Cosmo and 4th Pyramid, I look forward to the ep in the new year. Enough talk, herr ’tis.

To close it off a couple more remixes of the new Drop The Lime song, set me free. I prefer these over the harvard bass remix when push comes to shove. NROTB (Nu Ravers On The Block) have been on a terror as of late. Their remixes of might like you better (am posting too) and this one are epic and exactly what I want (nice tribal beat, chopped up horns, and amazing bass). They even did two remixes (Dark, and Carnival). Carnival chops up and uses the vocals a bit more while the dark has a more traditional house feel. There’s no need to choose between the two. They also have a new ep, Droplet, coming out at the end of the year and its shaping up to be hot. Also, Zombie Disco Squad did a remix of set me free, that’s a little more mellow, but equally epic and tribal (even have some elephants, birds, etc).

It was only a matter of time before Claude VonStroke made it here. I’ve been interested since I heard his remix of shake it to the ground (rye rye & diplo) a number of years ago. A resident of San Francisco, he has been releasing quirky light-hearted minimalistic ghettotech since 2006. His early tracks who’s afraid of detroit, the whistler, and deep throat are great and so much fun. The video for deep throat is perfect. The song is already weird and quirky but add a guy dressed in a rooster suit, a kid, and claude dressed as a bum and you get a great great video. He’s also started the dirty bird record label. 2009 has been a huge year for him. It’s seen the release of an album, dirty bird, two EPs, and a fabric mix (fabric 46). Grab ‘em at beatport. If you’ve enjoyed our posts on the crookers, and style of eye, try claude. Also, starting this week Claude VonStroke is a guest blogger at discobelle. VonStroke is synonymous with towering minimal bass. It starts off simple but it works so well. His tune titled monster island is a quite fitting title for his sound(there’s a godzilla dub drop edit on beatport). I really enjoy his remix of warrior, his tune with bootsy collins (Greasy Beats), vocal chords, and his remix of human bond by kevin saunderson (beatport). Honestly though the more I explore his catalog the more I like. Big Up to Kid City again for the great chunes. Lets get to it.

Alright if your not already inspired by that vid here are two huuuuuuge Afrojack remixes. He’s completely destroying right now, and has been for quite a while. Here’s zeggie, which uses the a millie sample, and still brings the tech house fire. Lastly he does a greatly remix of fm audio’s killer. Really digging his summer tune hard love too. Also Crookers finished their album so it should finally get released in the states. Peace!

So I’m kind of blown away by the quality of DJs in LA.  If you enjoyed the electro-heavy beats near the end of the Classixx post, beware — you may not need to listen to another DJ duo for the next few days.  Acid Girls produces an electronic blend of high-energy bliss.  Masterminded by the talents of Gregory Bowler (Twitter) and Jamie McNiel (Twitter, My Space), they seem to have perfected the balance between a variety of electronic genres (to name a few: electro, disco, drum’n'bass, techno) – all laced with a lil’ somethin’ that makes your body to want to move.  Discodust says it best:
Acid Girls from Los Angeles are living the (American) blogger’s dream: they went straight from hosting one of the most influential music blogs to dj’ing parties all over the world and are recently receiving more and more praise for their own productions and remixes.

They now have remnants of their blog left online and have surpassed the need for continuous updates as they move toward new levels of production.

Their first single “Numbers Song” makes me think of what it would be like if all I could rave with were 0’s and 1’s. Turbotito has also provided a great remix to this crazy tune as well.

Acid Girls recently released a track with the great UK electro-pop artist Frankmusik on the split single with Classixx (Kitsune x The Cobrasnake), “Wake Up”. The crazy unlabelable electro-driven energy within the song is characteristic of the unique art of Acid Girls.

Acid Girls – Oh My Stars

They have done some fantast remixes as well.  My fav is a remix to a song we all thought would have been long dead by now, e0H!s’s “Don’t Trust Me”.  Mad applause for turning a crap song into a bangin’ beat.
